Matt Tobin attempts to hover over the ground horizontally, thus occupying a larger area for defenders to try to run around. This method proved ineffective.
The Eagles tendered a one-year contract to restricted free agent Matt Tobin this morning. He was presumably tendered by the team at the “original round” price of approximately $1.67 million, which is the lowest tender a restricted free agent can receive.
Because Tobin was originally an undrafted free agent, teams can negotiate a new deal with him, and will not be required to give the Eagles any compensation at all if he leaves. However, the Eagles will have the right to match any deal he signs elsewhere.
Tobin headed into the 2015 season as the favorite to win the starting job at right guard, but was beaten out by Andrew Gardner in training camp. After Gardner was injured, Tobin filled in, and ended up starting 13 games at right guard. Going forward, Tobin will likely serve as little more than depth, as the Eagles are expected to be actively seeking upgrades along their offensive line both in free agency and the draft, especially at guard.
Let's just say that a bidding war for Tobin's services is not expected. Assuming he remains with the Eagles on his tendered amount, Tobin's salary is not guaranteed, so he'll still have to make the team to see that money.
