The Philadelphia Eagles announced today that they have signed former Buffalo Bills cornerback Leodis McKelvin, who had been released by the Bills last Friday. McKelvin played for a year under Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz in 2014. That season, he played in 10 games, starting nine, and intercepted four passes.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Dallas Cowboys also had interest.

It is a two year deal, reportedly worth just over $6 million.

McKelvin, who will turn 31 in September, was the 11th overall pick in 2008, but has been something of a disappointment. Over his eight year career, he has 317 tackles, 13 interceptions, and four forced fumbles. One of those 13 interceptions came last season against Sam Bradford and the Eagles, and is worth another look.

McKelvin also has experience as a kick returner and a punt returner. He has five career return touchdowns (one INT, one kick return, three punt returns). In 2013, he had 32 punt returns, and seven (!) fumbles.

Cornerback became a position of need once the Eagles agreed to trade Byron Maxwell to the Miami Dolphins. McKelvin also played some safety for Buffalo last season.
