After the Philadelphia Eagles smoked the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football, they ended any realistic chance of one of their division rivals overtaking them for the NFC East crown. With six games in the regular season remaining and a four game lead in the NFC East, it was really only a matter of when, not if, the Eagles would clinch.
With the Cowboys' 28-6 loss to the San Diego Chargers on Thanksgiving, the Eagles' magic number is now down to two. A look at the updated NFC East standings:
NFC East | Record | Div record |
Eagles | 9-1 | 4-0 |
Cowboys | 5-6 | 2-1 |
Redskins | 4-6 | 0-3 |
Giants | 2-8 | 0-2 |
If the Eagles win one more game or the Redskins lose one more game, the Redskins will be officially eliminated from winning the division.
The Eagles would need two more wins, two more Cowboys losses, or one Eagles win and one Cowboys loss to clinch.
The Giants would need the NFL to extend the regular season to 18 games or for God to hit the reset button on this season to be mathematically alive again.
