Yesterday, after Doug Pederson's day-after-game press conference, we updated the injury statuses of TE Zach Ertz, CB Leodis McKelvin, LB Mychal Kendricks and K Caleb Sturgis.
On Wednesday, Peterson added another to the list. That would be rookie OG Isaac Seumalo, who is being held out of practice today with a pectoral strain. Seumalo practiced last week, but has been inactive on game day in each of the first two weeks of the season.
"It's still sore, basically," said Pederson. "It's healing, but the strength is not back yet, necessarily. We just kind of want to give him this week and just sort of monitor him after that, get him all the treatment we can, get him through the bye, and then we'll see where he's at after that."
With Lane Johnson facing a suspension that could begin Week 5 against the Detroit Lions (the Eagles have a bye Week 4), Seumalo's injury is worth tracking. During training camp and the preseason games, the Eagles shifted Allen Barbre out from LG to RT to prepare for Johnson's suspension. Seumalo was the Eagles' first choice to fill in as the starter at LG in preseason games before he suffered his injury.
Pederson was asked if he thought Seumalo's time away would set back his progression.
"I don't think so, not at all," Pederson said. "He's had a lot of reps in there, his preseason reps in there, it wouldn't set him back. And he's one of those kids, a very sharp hid, studious kid. It wouldn't set him back at all."
Seumalo will likely be inactive once again Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the Eagles have him earmarked as the starter at LG commencing Week 5 against the Lions, he will have two and a half weeks to get his body right.
