The Eagles are just two games into their season and the injuries are already piling up. The worst news yet comes in the form of surgery for starting slot cornerback Avonte Maddox, who tore his pec in the Eagles' Week 2 win over the Vikings. That could be his season, according to a report from the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:
#Eagles DB Avonte Maddox will have surgery this week to repair a torn pec, sources say after an MRI and additional opinions. The injury will keep him out indefinitely, potentially for the season.

The Eagles will continue to rely heavily on their younger, unproven cornerbacks going forward this year. Second-year CB Josh Jobe had his first career start this past Thursday with James Bradberry in concussion protocol and the results were mixed at best. Perhaps the Birds throw out Mario Goodrich, undrafted in 2022 out of Clemson, in the slot to replace Maddox. More likely, however, would be moving Bradberry from his normal outside spot to nickel cornerback on a matchup-by-matchup basis. Bradberry did receive a healthy amount of slot reps during training camp this summer.
The Eagles were the beacon of health in the NFL last year, as all 22 Week 1 starters suited up in the Super Bowl. Even if a trip to Las Vegas in February is on the itinerary, it looks like they won't be so lucky this time around.
