The Eagles are resting starters on Sunday, but Jalen Hurts' concussion will be something to monitor throughout the week.

The Philadelphia Eagles listed eight players (not including resting players) on their initial injury report ahead of their Week 18 matchup against the New York Giants. Nick Sirianni said on Wednesday that the Eagles will be resting starters for this matchup in advance of the playoffs.

Here's the Eagles-Giants injury report, with analysis...

Wednesday notes (walkthrough)

• Hurts was a non-participant. Certainly, it would be more encouraging to Eagles fans to see that he was at least a limited participant after missing practice all week last week, and then the Eagles' win over the Cowboys.

• Brown was on the injury report last week with "knee/rest" last week too, so that's probably not concerning.

• Smith's wrist injury is new. We'll monitor that.

• Dean was a full participant after missing the Cowboys game.

• If the Eagles want to get a good, long look at Shipley on Sunday, his ability to practice on Wednesday is a good sign in his recovery from a concussion suffered Week 16 against the Commanders.

• The following players either got the day off completely or were limited with "rest" designations:

DNP (in alphabetical order):

  1. RB Saquon Barkley
  2. RG Mekhi Becton
  3. LG Landon Dickerson
  4. RT Lane Johnson
  5. QB Kenny Pickett
  6. CB Darius Slay
  7. EDGE Josh Sweat

Limited:

  1. LB Zack Baun
  2. S Reed Blankenship
  3.  DT Jalen Carter
  4. CB Cooper DeJean
  5. S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
  6. C Cam Jurgens
  7. LT Jordan Mailata
  8. CB Quinyon Mitchell
  9. EDGE Nolan Smith

Thursday notes

• Hurts is still not practicing. 😬

• Pickett didn't practice either, which should serve as further evidence that Tanner McKee will start on Sunday.

• Shipley was upgraded to "full," so he'll very likely play on Sunday and get a good amount of playing time.

Friday notes

• Hurts missed practice again.

• The following players don't have injuries, but were listed as doubtful (in alphabetical order):

  1. RB Saquon Barkley
  2. LB Zack Baun
  3. DT Jalen Carter
  4. LG Landon Dickerson
  5. RT Lane Johnson
  6. LT Jordan Mailata
  7. CB Darius Slay
Brown, Smith, and Dean have injury designations, and were also listed as doubtful, but more for "rest" reasons.

Other notable players on IR, PUP, suspension, etc.

TE Dallas Goedert (IR): Goedert has 38 catches on 46 targets for 441 yards and 2 TDs this season. He doesn't have high volume stats, but he has been an efficient receiver when the ball has come his way, averaging 9.6 yards per target. Grant Calcaterra has started in Goedert's absence, and E.J. Jenkins was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

Goedert's 21-day practice window was activated on Tuesday, but he will likely stay on IR until after the Eagles' matchup with the Giants so the Eagles can preserve the roster spot for a backup to play.

EDGE Brandon Graham (IR): Graham tore his left triceps in the Eagles' win over the Rams. Before the season, Graham said that the 2024 season, his 15th in the NFL, would be his last. He played very well, and was arguably the team's best edge defender. Graham finished with 20 tackles and 3.5 sacks, with his stats not truly showing his actual impact, as has been the case throughout his career.

WR/RS Britain Covey (IR): Covey was previously on IR with a shoulder injury. He returned from that injury and played in games, but landed on IR once again with a neck injury. Cooper DeJean will return punts.

FB Ben VanSumeren (IR): VanSumeren was a core special teams player and linebacker who became a fullback for the Eagles this season, and looked pretty good in that role. He suffered a lower-body injury during practice and landed on IR.

Because the Eagles are resting starters and don't really care much whether they win this game or not, the Giants' injury report falls into the "Who Cares?" category this week. We'll update it each day, but we can probably skip the commentary, right?

Other notable players on IR, PUP, suspension, etc.

Again, we'll skip the commentary, other than to note that the Giants have a bunch of starters and other notable players on IR. I'll list them in order of importance (in my opinion):

  1. LT Andrew Thomas
  2. DT Dexter Lawrence
  3. OG Jon Runyan
  4. LB Bobby Okereke
  5. EDGE Azeez Ojulari
  6. S Tyler Nubin
  7. TE Theo Johnson
