Eagles finish interview with Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo

The Eagles announced that they interviewed Ben McAdoo today for their head coaching vacancy. It was widely reported that he was interviewing with the Birds, but their announcement makes it official that it has indeed happened.

McAdoo is the fourth candidate to interview for the job, and the third of four candidates who were formerly quarterback coaches. The previous three candidates to interview in Philly were Duce Staley, Pat Shurmur, and Adam Gase. Shurmur and Gase were the two other former QB coaches. The Eagles are reportedly expected to interview a fifth, former quarterback coach in Kansas City's Doug Pederson on Sunday, a day after the Chiefs' playoff game against the Texans, win or lose:

The Eagles' head coaching search certainly seems to be revolving around the quarterback position, which makes sense, considering the Eagles' quarterback situation has been one of the most unstable in the NFL, as noted when we identified Gase as a strong candidate.

While Gase has had success with a variety of quarterbacks, McAdoo's claim to fame is that he helped Eli Manning come back from a 27-interception season to a pair of back-to-back years in which Manning threw for a combined 65 TDs and 28 INTs in an entirely new offense. Like Gase, McAdoo would be the youngest head coach in the NFL if the Eagles hired him. McAdoo is 38; Gase is 37.
