This year marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." The Rosenbach Museum is hosting a slew of educational and social events to celebrate, and now Drink Philly and Philadelphia's Magic Gardens are getting in on the action, too.
They're marking the occasion with a Mad Hatter Whiskey Tea Party on Wednesday, September 30. Full of cocktails and food and "unbirthdays," it will be a festive occasion die-hard Alice fans won't want to miss.
Dan Lan Hamm of Spirit Forward is creating tea cocktails featuring Manatawny Still Works for the night. They include: "A Very Merry Unbirthday," made with Manatawny’s earl gray-infused whiskey, orange blossom honey and lemon; "Raven Like a Writing Desk," a gin cocktail with oolong tea syrup and lemon; and "Curiouser and Curiouser," with green tea, vodka, simple syrup, lime and soda.
Dump-N-Roll will be bringing pork and chive dumplings and chipotle turkey bacon cheeseburger wontons with smoky honey bourbon barbecue sauce. Grateful Plate will have polenta rounds with black bean and tomato salsa on hand and Little Bird Bakery is bringing along some banana split cakes.
Dallas Vietty and Ryan McNeely are providing live "gypsy jazz" tunes for the evening and guests are encouraged to dress in Wonderland-themed outfits for the occasion. (Though the Magic Gardens suggests leaving the heels at home, thanks to all the cobblestones. We concur.)
