Health officials from Cape May County and the state of New Jersey are investigating what could have caused several dozen wedding guests to fall ill in the days after an April 30 event at the Flanders Hotel in Ocean City.
According to The Press of Atlantic City, 42 of 150 guests who attended the Jersey Shore wedding have been confirmed to have experienced symptoms within day or two following the event.
Though their symptoms weren't shared publicly, a county health official told the Press the illnesses likely stemmed from either food poisoning or a norovirus, though neither has been confirmed or ruled out at this time.
The county is currently surveying each of the affected individuals to identify and rule out potential causes. This is the first time an illness outbreak has been reported following an event at the venue, its catering director told The Press.
