Peter King and the MMQB were at Eagles open practice on Sunday at The Linc, and while getting a one-on-one with Doug Pederson, King was able to extract quite the anecdote from the Eagles head coach.
Apparently, Pederson is above the law:
Rookie Eagles coach Doug Pederson was driving home from the Philadelphia airport one night this off-season and got pulled over by a cop. Seems Pederson had been driving without his lights on, and the cop took his license and registration and went back to his car to write him up. The cop came back a couple of minutes later. He handed Pederson the license and registration back, with nothing else.
“Season-ticket holder 26 years,” the flat-line cop said. “Expecting big things.”
Judging by the general lack of interest surrounding the Eagles this training camp, it’s a tough sell that the cop is expecting big things right away. Driving without your lights off isn’t exactly getting away with driving at Okafor Speed, either.
That said, it’s good to be the Eagles coach (and not the quality control coordinator that Pederson started out as). If the Birds start out the season 1-3, though, Pederson might want to make sure that his lights are on. You can never be too careful with these things.
