Coffee lovers in Philadelphia can add a new shop to their to-do list beginning on Feb. 2 with the grand opening of Double Knot in Midtown Village, a coffee bar that will transform into a Japanese-style izakaya by night.
According to Eater Philly, Double Knot has been a brewing project of Michael Schulson and his fiancé Nina Tinari, who despite a modest storefront will have Philadelphia's first state-of-the-art Modbar coffee dispensing system on site.

During the morning to lunch hours, in-house pastry chef Roxxanne Delle Site will prepare coffee cakes, homemade pop-tarts and quiches to go along with Vietnamese menu including rice noodles and bánh mi.
Once 5 p.m. rolls around, Double Knot will assume a second identity downstairs as a sushi bar robatayaki grill with room to seat up to 90 people.
Selections from executive chef Kevin Yanaga will include a full range of chicken, meat, pork and other game skewers such as quail, lamb and venison. The robatayaki menu also features seafood options like scallops, prawn, swordfish meatball, and octopus, plus a full selection of vegetables from asparagus to king oyster mushrooms and miso eggplant. To top things off, the cocktail menu offers both the classics and more experimental drinks, such as the Singapore Slip (pineapple- and thyme-infused gin, yuzu and amarena cherry) and the Monkey Fist (Junmai saki, coconut, pinapple syrup, lime, and chili).
Double Knot officially opens Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 120 South 13th Street. Check out the full cafe and downstairs menus before the grand opening.
