An emaciated pit bull found abandoned and dying in Philadelphia’s Tacony Creek Park last week is showing signs of a hopeful recovery thanks to her rescuers and donations raised through a crowd-funding website for her care, according to Philly.com.
Nani, as she’s been named, was found by a dog walker last Tuesday in a basket in the park, according to CBSPhilly. The dog, who appears to be about 4 years old, weighed only 25 pounds, was unable to stand or lift her head and wasn’t fed for around a month, according to reports on Philly.com.
The good Samaritan who spotted Nani attempted to feed her and then alerted the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia, which has since helped to place her in a foster home facilitated by Lilo's Promise Animal Rescue in Voorhees.
According to CBSPhilly, Nani has started to eat small bits of food and drink a little water. She also wags her tail when she is approached, Lilo's Promise wrote on its website.
Lilo's Promise Animal Rescue is continuing to raise money for Nani’s full recovery. Donations beyond the goal will be used for the continuing care of Nani and the other animals at the nonprofit rescue organization.
The animal rescue is also offering $400 to anyone offering information that leads to the identification of the person responsible for Nani's condition and abandonment. The tip numbers are (856) 207-7818 and (856) 397-1520.
