Columbus Square Park in South Philadelphia is currently raising money for a $3 million overhaul. Not only is the whole site looking for a makeover, but the dog park has plans to spruce up quite a bit, too.

Enter "A Dog Day Afternoon," a fur-filled day of fundraising for bettering the dog park. Thanks to the South Philadelphia Association of Dog Owners (SPADO), for one day, Columbus Square will become "the Ultimate Dog Park," complete with plenty of space to play, toys and access to the site's main field.

Owners will have access to vendors attending the event, including community businesses and specific dog and pet services. The fundraiser also includes raffle prizes, a photo booth, dog washes and an adoption event from Street Tails Animal Rescue at the existing dog run at Columbus Square. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but starting at 11:30 a.m., frisbees and tennis balls will be provided to dogs for playtime.

All proceeds from the event will go toward renovating the dog park in 2016, which SPADO is working on in collaboration with the Friends of Columbus Square Park. All spayed and neutered dogs are welcome, as well as dog-less humans for $2.
