A 74-year old man accused of indecent assault during the Democratic National Convention has been acquitted by a Philadelphia Municipal Court judge Thursday, Philly.com reported.
Walter Weeks, of Delaware County, served as a delegate for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders over the summer when Gwen Snyder, 31 of Philadelphia who was also a delegate, said he buried his face into her chest and licked her breast at a bar around 2 a.m. on July 27.
Snyder fought hard for the Philadelphia District Attorney's office to investigate after they initially dismissed her claim.
Snyder organized an online petition called "DA Williams, Don't Let Alcohol Be A Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Card for Sexual Violence" after the denial. Her case also received national attention.
"The main reason that they weren't going to prosecute was that the guy was drunk at the time. And while they were clear on the fact that I didn't give consent, a jury wouldn't be convinced whether he knew I didn't give consent," Snyder told Newsworks.
The D.A.'s office announced in August that it would pursue the investigation.
