Customers who used a credit card to pay for their meal at several area restaurants are being asked to closely monitor their accounts for fraudulent activity after the company that manages them announced a data breach.
Landry's restaurant group announced Friday the results of a report from a private cyber security firm they hired after receiving a tip about suspicious activity regarding the legitimate use of cards at several of their locations.
The firm found that hackers installed a program on their payment system that gathered personal information from credit card users at their restaurants. The information the program was designed to obtain included the cardholder's name, the card number, expiration date and the internal verification number.
As a result, Landry's has beefed up security measures regarding its payment system and is working to try and find potentially affected cards from the program.
In the meantime, the restaurant group is asking customers who used a credit card during certain time periods at specific locations to closely monitor their statements for unauthorized purchases.
