Nearly 90 workers' jobs will be uprooted this spring when Comcast closes a warehouse in South Jersey.

According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification posted on the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Philadelphia-based Comcast will eliminate 88 positions at a facility in West Deptford, Gloucester County on June 16. The alert is mandated by the WARN Act to give advance notice to workers about impending layoffs. In New Jersey, employers are required to give at least 60 days notice.

A spokesperson for Comcast told the Philadelphia Business Journal that the multimedia giant is simplifying its operation through consolidation.

“We are making changes to our warehouse operations and business model that will enhance our overall operational efficiency, ensuring that technicians, business partners and retail stores have the right equipment for the job every time so they can best serve customers," Jennifer Bilotta said in a statement obtained by the outlet.

The workers impacted by the closure will have an opportunity to apply for positions with XPO Logistics, which is expected to assume Comcast's work load in the area.
