The Coast Guard has launched a coastal search between New Jersey and Maryland after a crewmember on a freighter went missing shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
According to NBC 10, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads received an alert from the Marshall Islands flag freight ship Ibrahim Dede reporting a missing person.
The man, who has not been identified, was reportedly last seen aboard the 600-foot ship when it departed from Bayonne, New Jersey. The crew did not discover he was missing until the ship was traveling to its next port.
As part of the search effort, a 45-foot Response Boat crew from the Coast Guard Station in New York, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from the Coast Guard Air Station in Atlantic City, and a C-130 airplane crew from the Air Station Elizabeth City have all been sent to scour the search area.
