A Burlington County prison is reopening as an addiction treatment center for inmates.
Gov. Chris Christie will hold a roundtable discussion Monday with counselors at the nearly 700-bed Mid-State Correctional Facility on the grounds of Fort Dix in Wrightstown, according to the Associated Press. Opened in 1982, the facility had housed juvenile offenders.
The governor said his administration would convert the facility into a treatment center in his 2016 state of the state address, AP reported. He sought $2 million for the project in 2016 and said this year he will seek another $2 million.
In his final year as governor, Christie has focused on the drug addiction crisis in New Jersey. He also is heading a commission on drug addiction for President Donald Trump.
