The Chinese New Year officially begins in February but the Penn Museum is starting the celebration early on Saturday, Jan. 30. During the event, celebrating the Year of the Monkey, attendees will learn how the Lunar New Year is observed throughout Asia. Family-friendly activities will run all day, leading up to the Grand Finale Lion Dance Parade.
Throughout the day, there will be traditional music and dancing, arts and crafts, folktales and museum tours through the art-filled China Gallery.
Special workshops and performances will also take place. Guests can enjoy tai chi and tangram workshops and a Shaolin-style Kung Fu demonstration.
At the end of the day, guests will see the lion dancers perform in costume.
