Charles Barkley rips ESPN for pushing ‘black vs. white’ narrative in Super Bowl coverage

Former Sixers star and part-time Philadelphian Charles Barkley is almost always happy to share his opinions. And while making an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, he ripped ESPN for their Super Bowl coverage.

Specifically, Barkley isn’t a fan of how the two quarterbacks (Peyton Manning, Cam Newton) are being compared (3:30 mark):

“ESPN has already started their crap about black versus white, good versus evil,” Barkley said. “And I know a lot of those fools over there got radio talk shows really but you can just see they’re framing this narrative: black versus white, good against evil. It annoys the hell out of me. We just can’t appreciate the greatness of Peyton [Manning]. And clearly, Cam is on the track to become one of the greatest players ever.”

Manning and Newton are two very different players, and with the two-week layoff, the matchup is going to be picked apart every way possible. It’s clear that Barkley doesn’t like racial undertones in ESPN’s coverage.
