A charity hockey game is planned for a former Camden County police officer this Saturday.
Brett Hansen, 28, who had moved on to the Toms River Police Department in 2015, was off-duty when his car collided with a tractor-trailer in January around mile marker 90 on the Garden State Parkway.
His injuries were extensive, including head trauma and the loss of one eye. He is not expected to work again as a police officer.
The charity game in Toms River is set for Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. between the Toms River and Camden County police departments.
The event is $10 and takes place at the Winding River Ice Rink, 12211 Whitesville Road, Toms River. There is a nearby after-party for an additional $5.
There was no evidence indicating Hansen was impaired while driving and he was not ticketed.
The Toms River Police Patrolmen's Benevolent Association is collecting donations for the "Brett Hansen Fund." Donations can be sent to the Toms River PBA #137, P.O. Box 5011, Toms River, NJ 08754.
His parents have also set up a GoFundMe account for the "Friends of Brett Hansen." That account has raised more than $33,000.
