U.S. Census: 227K New Jersey residents said goodbye to Garden State last year

Many moved to Pennsylvania and New York

New census data sifted through by NJ.com shows 227,000 New Jerseyians left the Garden State last year, with a significant number of them resettling in Pennsylvania and New York.

The data shows that 41,578 New Jersey residents moved to Pennsylvania and 34,588 to New York last year.

As for new arrivals, New Jersey welcomed 62,000 immigrants, mainly from Asia, a trend that NJ.com said has been holding steady for the past few years and is a main factor in keeping the state population level.
