Well, that didn't take long.
Carson Wentz, less than 24 hours after being selected No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft, couldn't even make it out of Philadelphia International Airport before he was booed by Eagles fans. And that was before he met with the throng of reporters awaiting his arrival at the NovaCare Complex.
While being escorted through the airport by police and team security, the Eagles new QB and his family were approached by a handful of fans who were hoping for an autograph. Wentz was willing to give some high fives, but autographs were apparently off limits.
I can only imagine that's because if he said yes to one, he would have felt compelled to sign one for everyone that asked, and that would've taken quite a while -- just think how many others would have seen the crowd gathering around him and tried to get in line for one of their own.
Take a look for yourself.
You can hear a lot of things being said in the background of that video -- none of it seems that bad, by the way -- and some of them are a little difficult to hear, but PhillyMag's Dan McQuade provided a nice rundown:
• “E-A-G-L-E-S, Eagles!” (obviously)
• “You won’t even sign for me?”
• “It’s gotta be crazy, man.”
• “Come on, Carson.”
• “You won’t sign for a season ticket holder?”
• “Carson, there’s five of us.”
• “You’re not lookin’ good on the news!”
• “Come on, Carson, you’re better than this.”
• “Woooooow.”
• “He’s a pr*ck, ain’t he?”
• “Boo! Already! We’re gonna boo you already!”
• “Come on! One each, Carson?”
My favorite? "You're better than this."
I'm not sure who comes off looking worse in this. On one hand, refusing to sign autographs isn't the best way to endear yourself to Philly fans. On the other, grown men shouldn't be airport-stalking players for autographs in the first place.
