Firefighters battle a blaze, Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, in the West Kensington. The fire started in a building housing retail shops, but no injuries were reported.

SEPTA reports that train service has resumed at its Market-Frankford El Tuesday morning. Passengers are told to board all trains on the westbound platforms at Berks. There is no service at York Dauphin until further notice.

A large fire at a commercial building in Kensington shut down service on part of SEPTA's Market-Frankford El for most of the morning, 6abc reports.

The flames started at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of North Front Street, quickly setting off two alarms and then a third.

The building houses several retail stores on the bottom floor and apartments on the upper floors, according to 6abc. Fire officials said the apartments were unoccupied.

Shuttle buses were operating in the area, but excessive smoke had shut down SEPTA's Market-Frankford El between Huntingdon and Berks stations.

SEPTA spokeswoman Heather Redfern said the transit agency had asked the fire department if it could start running trains without stopping at the stations impacted by the fire, but was waiting for clearance.

Multiple firefighting units were on the scene. No injuries were immediately reported. Extreme cold temperatures were causing some hydrants to freeze, firefighters said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
