Eat at these five brunch spots on New Year's Day

Start the new year off right with these specials

Brunch is a weekend staple -- sometimes even a necessity to start the day. With New Year's Day falling on Saturday this year, brunch is even more important for the holiday weekend. Champagne can leave a nasty headache and the Mummer's parade starts early. Aim for a good start to 2016 by brunching it up at any of these local restaurants.

Oyster House

This restaurant offers a spin on a tried-and-true breakfast favorite. Enjoy a fried oyster, bacon and egg sandwich (the F.O.B.E, $12) designed expressly for your New Year's Day needs.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
1516 Sansom St.
(215) 567-7683

White Dog Cafe

No need to get dressed up for the occasion. At this brunch, pajamas are encouraged. There are three locations: University City, Wayne and Haverford. Each is participating in the annual festivity. While the menu items are luxurious, you can stay comfy. It is a pajama party, after all.

10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
3420 Sansom St.
(215) 386-9224

Marathon

Have to get up early? Head to either 16th and Sansom streets or 19th and Market streets for brunch. Either spot will serve up breakfast at 8 a.m.

8 a.m to 11 p.m.
121 S. 16th St.
(215) 569-3278

Tattooed Mom

Not sure if you'll ever get changed out of pajamas on New Year's Day? Don't worry because Tattooed Moms is hosting a late brunch that you can go to in your slippers, robe and matching PJ set. Welcome the first day of 2016 with bloody mary specials and a free pork buffet.

2 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
530 South St.
(215) 238-9880

Philadelphia Museum of Art

This isn't your average brunch spot, but you don't want 2016 to be an average year. Head to the Museum for a parfait station, salad bar, selection of mini desserts, fresh squeezed juices and a selection of brunch dishes. Reservations are required for this event.

10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. | $45 per adult, $17 per child
2600 Benjamin Franklin Parkway
(215) 684-7990
