A 27-year-old woman was critically injured and her unborn child killed Monday in a car crash on North Broad Street, prompting Philadelphia police to file charges against a teen driver who was allegedly in a street race.
Investigators said the incident occurred just before 5 a.m. Monday morning at 2130 North Broad St., between Diamond Street and Susquehanna Avenue in North Philly.
Two vehicles were traveling northbound at high speeds when the trailing car, a blue Ford Expedition, struck the car in front of it. Police did not provide a description of the second car, which veered into the southbound lanes and struck a tree.
On Tuesday, police announced charges against 19-year-old Yaaseen Bivines, of the 2600 block of North Bambrey Street.
Bivines, who allegedly drove the Ford Expedition, has been charged with third degree murder, aggravated assault, DUI, reckless endangerment, racing on highways, and driving without a license in an accident involving death, among other offenses.

The Ford Expedition veered to the right after colliding with the other vehicle, hopped the curb and hit 27-year-old Gina Campbell, who had been sitting on a low concrete wall, police said. Two men who were also sitting with her were able to avoid the vehicle.
Campbell, seven months pregnant, suffered severe injuries and was taken to Temple University Hospital. Her baby girl was delivered via C-section by hospital staff and was pronounced dead, police said.
There were multiple witnesses at the scene of the crash, authorities said. Six passengers were in the two vehicles involved in the crash. It was not clear whether anyone in the cars suffered serious injuries.
The driver of the second car was described as a 16-year-old boy. Police said both drivers are unlicensed and suspected of DUI, but charges were not immediately announced against the juvenile driver.
