'Grease' is the word for Philly's own Grammy-winning R&B legends Boyz II Men. The group announced Wednesday that they will join the cast of "Grease: Live," a broadcast of the famed musical airing on Fox Sunday, Jan. 31.
Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris will all be playing Teen Angel, a role made famous by Frankie Avalon in the 1978 film. Teen Angel gives Frenchy (played in this version by Carly Rae Jepsen) some not-so-nice advice in the song "Beauty School Dropout." But surely the guidance will sound much sweeter in Boyz II Men's signature three-part harmony.
The group took to Twitter to announce the news in song:
Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit will star as Sandy and Danny in "Grease: Live," with Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo, Keke Palmer as Marty Maraschino and Carlos Pena Jr. as Kenickie. It will be recorded live and aired at 7 p.m. Jan. 31.
"Grease: Live" is the latest in a string of network TV Broadway adaptations. Most recently, NBC aired a rousing rendition of "The Wiz" starring New Jersey native Shanice Williams.
