During the team’s final training camp practice at Stockton University on Friday, Simmons rolled his ankle landing on the foot of teammate . After receiving an X-ray and MRI on his foot, it was concluded that he fractured of the fifth metatarsal bone of his right foot.
All in all, this isn’t a terrible outcome for the top overall pick after hearing the initial news of the fracture. The Sixers, with a new front office in place, will still proceed with caution like ’s predecessor always did. Simmons won’t be rushed back, but it also appears as if this injury isn’t a season-ender like the Sixers have seen the past three years with (twice) and .
It also appears that the weight gain Simmons talked about at media day, which was overblown earlier in the week, didn’t play a factor in injuring his foot. PhillyVoice will be at Sixers practice on Sunday morning, where we should learn more about Simmons’ injury and rehab.
