'Autumn's Colors' light up Longwood Gardens

Fall foliage is on the way

Fall foliage makes Longwood a pretty site every autumn.

Now that summer is on its way out and fall is on its way in, it's time to turn our attentions to the beautiful fall weather that is (hopefully) coming soon. That means fall foliage, in all its colorful glory, is just around the corner.

Of course, there are plenty of spaces in and around Philadelphia where the autumnal splendor will be on full display. Bowman's Hill, Tyler State Park and even the Benjamin Franklin Parkway come to life during the season. But if you're looking for a manicured, horticulture-focused experience, Longwood Gardens' annual "Autumn's Colors" event officially begins Saturday, September 12.

It's not exactly an exhibit, per se, as the experience is largely curated by Mother Nature, but it's certainly worth the trip. The sculpted gardens and fall-themed displays will get you in the spirit of the season. Meadow Garden will be full of seasonal blooms (you can see exactly what's in bloom via Longwood's handy online guide) and the Garden Railway, a G-scale model train display, will be chugging along.

The Chrysanthemum Festival, featuring autumn's favorite flower, will pop up beginning Saturday, October 24 and the wondrous (and trippy) Nightscape display will be open through Halloween.
