As shocking as that is, the real news is the humidity and heat – possibly record-setting heat – that will cloak the region beginning Sunday and will stick around for a couple of days.
The weekend gets off to a good start on Saturday, as a Bermuda High settles in off the coast. There is a chance of a shower or thunderstorm, mostly north and west of the I-95 corridor, but anything we see should be light, according to the National Weather Service.
The mercury rises into the mid-80s on Saturday in Philadelphia as the southwest flow strengthens. It will be cooler at the Jersey Shore and the Poconos by a half-dozen degrees or so.
On Sunday, the heat begins to intensify, with a high temperature near 93 in the city. Temperatures will be cooler in the mountains and cooler even moreso at the beaches (high of . Skies will be sunny across the entire region.
The heat sticks around Monday and Tuesday and could take a sweaty swipe at Philly's record temperatures for the dates: 95 on both June 12, 2015 and June 13, 1956.
On Wednesday, a back-door cold front will push south into the region on Wednesday, forecasters said.
