Federal
authorities have arrested one of three people allegedly involved in the April 4 abduction and
beating of a Jewelers' Row employee.
Khayree Gay, 31, of the Feltonville neighborhood in North Philadelphia, was arrested Friday by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives at the Security Inn and Suites hotel in Lake City, South Carolina, according to 6ABC.
Gay is being held in the Florence County Detention Center in South Carolina. Officials told 6ABC he has been charged with federal kidnapping and related offenses.
Police say three masked men forced the 53-year-old woman into a van inside a parking garage near her job at the National Watch and Diamond Exchange at 8th and Chestnut streets on April 4. Authorities say the men beat her and used a stun gun on her in an attempt to get the codes to the jewelry store's safe and the key to the store, which she told them she didn’t have, 6ABC reported.
Police told Philly.com that the men then drove the woman, whose identity has not been released, to the Mount Lawn Cemetery in Darby, where they placed plastic zip-ties around her wrists and left her there, before returning later and placing her in shackles and handcuffs.
According
to reports by Philly.com, Gay has previously been arrested at least six times in
Philadelphia on aggravated assault, drug and firearm charges.
The two other unnamed suspects are still being sought.
