New Jersey's Adventure Aquarium is ready to celebrate Hippo Awareness Weekend. Resident 2-ton hippos Genny and Button will be getting all the attention with two days of activities Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30.
Each day guests can head over to Hippo Haven and hear all about hippos during feeding and enrichment sessions with Adventure Aquarium biologists. They'll take place at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m., and 1:30, 2:30 and 5 p.m. Genny and Button will be swimming around all day, so snappy shutterbugs might want to take a #HippoSelfie.
Special tables with information on hippos' diets and behaviors will be open to guests, as will a space to learn about Genny and Button's extended family at Turgwe Hippo Trust in Zimbabwe, Africa. Artwork made by Genny and Button will be for sale, as will bracelets and stickers, with all of the proceeds going toward Turgwe Hippo Trust.
As part of the Aquarium's extended summer hours, it will be open until 7 p.m. during Hippo Awareness Weekend, too.
