Lost your furry best friend? There's an app for that.
The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia said Thursday that it is now using the private social network Nextdoor to help "easily and efficiently reunite lost pets with their owners." The ACCT said it is the first animal-control organization of its kind to adopt the app on the East Coast.
Nextdoor is accessible to residents of specific neighborhoods — in order to sign up for the free app, you have to provide some proof of residence, like a phone bill or the address on your credit card. Users can post listings for lost and found, help wanted or community concerns.

The ACCT said it will use the app to share information on lost-and-found pets so more owners can be reunited with their animals.
“Our neighbors in Philadelphia already use the platform to discuss lost pets, and with ACCT Philly now on the platform, we can help quicken the process of finding and returning these lost pets to their loving owners," Audra Houghton, operations director at ACCT Philly, said in a press release.
More than 300 neighborhoods in Philadelphia already use the app, the ACCT said.
