UPDATE [Tuesday, 2:20 p.m.] – The charges against Lucky Whitehead have been dropped. According to police, it was a case of mistaken identity. Read more.
His name isn't nearly as well known as running back Ezekiel Elliott – and the crime he's accused of isn't as serious as the ones Elliott was recently investigated for – but that doesn't change the fact that another member of the Dallas Cowboys has run afoul of the law.
And this time, it's for something really stupid.
Wide receiver Lucky Whitehead was reportedly arrested in Virginia last month for shoplifting – the reason this is extra stupid is because he's accused of stealing less than $200 worth of merchandise from a convenience story – and according to TMZ, a warrant has been issued after Whitehead failed to appear for a July 6 court date.
The 25-year-old was busted in Prince William County, VA on June 22 for shoplifting/petit larceny under $200. We're told Whitehead allegedly took stuff from a convenience store.
He was ordered to appear in court on July 6, but according to court records he didn't show up -- so a warrant was issued for his arrest. He's since been charged for failure to appear. [tmz.com]
I wonder if Mike Leake is his favorite baseball player?
TMZ said they reached out to Whitehead's camp but haven't heard back yet.
This arrest is the latest in a string of off-field issues for the Cowboys since the season ended. Here's a look at their offseason troubles, not even counting all the dumb things Elliott's been up to so far – which could lead to a suspension.
• Damien Wilson arrested for aggravated assault
• Nolan Carroll arrested for DWI
• Dak Prescott accused of forging autographs
• Randy Gregory suspended for a year
• David Irving suspended for four games
Wow. Jerry Jones sure runs a tight ship.
Or maybe he's just angling for a new NBC series...
The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly released Lucky Whitehead.
