Amtrak announces extra trains, seats during papal visit

New York, Washington D.C., commuters also likely to feel the effects

Amtrak announced it will operate extra trains with extra seats during Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia next month.

An estimated 1.5 million visitors are expected to flock to Philadelphia during Pope Francis’ visit Sept. 26-27. 

Starting Friday, Sept. 26, through Monday, Sept. 28 reservations will be required for all Acela Express, Northeast Regional and Keystone Service trains, Amtrak said in a statement.

In addition, Amtrak will operate its“Event Extra” service in Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday.  
Taxi service and rental cars will not be available to and from 30th Street Station Friday through Sunday, it said.

Additional announcements with more detailed information will be made in the weeks to come and posted to Amtrak custom web page created for the event, Amtrak.com/papalvisit, which will be updated regularly.
