Philly native Amber Rose will be among the guests on Amanda Knox’s upcoming series, “The Scarlet Letter Reports.”
The show will be produced by Broadly, VICE’s women’s interest vertical, and feature Knox in interviews with women who, like Knox, have faced public shaming that is particularly gender-specific.
VICE announced “The Scarlet Letter Reports” will be a five-episode series premiering on Facebook Watch that will air weekly. Along with the announcement of “The Scarlet Letter Reports,” VICE announced that two other original series – “Breaking & Entertaining” and “The Hangover Show” will also premiere in the coming months.
Knox, in case you’ve forgotten, shot to notoriety when she was studying in Italy in 2007 at the age of 20. After her roommate was violently murdered, the local media framed Knox as the culprit with sensational headlines and false reporting, largely over-sexualizing the student to grab readers' attention.
As evidenced in a 2016 Netflix documentary about Knox, the media played a large part in Knox being wrongfully imprisoned for four years. Knox, whose parents at one point called on Philadelphia lawyer Theodore Simon for help with their daughter's case, was finally acquitted in 2015.
“While on trial for a murder I didn’t commit, my prosecutor painted me as a sex-crazed femme fatale with magical powers to control men,” Knox said in the VICE press release.
“I lost years of my life to prison because of two-dimensional and misogynist stereotypes. In ‘The Scarlet Letter Reports,’ I’m hoping to re-humanize others who have been similarly shamed and vilified, and elevate the standard for how we think and talk about public women.”
Amber Rose is one of two guests announced in the press release, along with Daisy Coleman of the Maryville, Missouri, rape case. Since the launch of Rose’s SlutWalk, the public figure has continually garnered media attention for her advocacy of women’s causes.
