Amazon is hiring 1,500 today in New Jersey, and Philly could be next

Amazon is hiring on the spot today, Aug. 2, for new employees to work in its New Jersey warehouses, dishing out a total of 1,500 jobs.

The New Jersey hirings will be just one of many going on throughout the country as Amazon looks to further expand its footprint and reach an additional 100,000 new Amazon workers by the middle of 2018.

Full-time and part-time positions will be available, with positions in New Jersey's Robbinsville, Carteret, Avenel and Teterboro warehouse locations. Medical benefits, retirement and stock awards are among the benefits available to workers employed at least 20 hours a week, NJ.com reported.

Though there are no similar job fairs in Philadelphia this time around, rumors have circulated regarding a new Amazon warehouse possibly coming to West Philadelphia in the space at 4100 Chestnut. A blog post from Naked Philly followed through on the rumors with a little detective work and seemingly confirmed that the building is currently being renovated for one.

So, while there aren’t any Philadelphia job fairs today in the Amazon hiring blitz, it looks like there could be some headed to West Philly – just beside Penn – in the somewhat near future.
