ALDI, a discount grocer with 1,300 locations throughout the United States, is purchasing the Bottom Dollar franchise from the Belgian-based Delhaize Group. The company plans to reopen some of the 66 Bottom Dollar locations throughout Pennsylvania and South Jersey, but is withholding details until the completion of the sale.
"ALDI and Delhaize are still working through the real estate transaction," senior vice president Julie Ketay wrote in an email. "We remain hopeful that the transaction will be completed by the end of March."
Bottom Dollar closed its doors in January, leaving some communities uncertain about their future access to staple foods and produce, including Chester and Philadelphia's Brewerytown neighborhood. Each of those communities welcomed Bottom Dollar after going years without a grocery store.
The hiring event is being held next Thursday and Friday at the ALDI store at 4421 Market St. in West Philadelphia. The positions pay at least $52,000 annually and include various benefits. More details can be found here.
