Airlines pre-emptively cancel flights at Philly airport ahead of snowstorm

The impending nor'easter that is poised to strike the Northeast Corridor is already wreaking havoc at Philadelphia International Airport.

Several major airlines have announced flight cancellations for arrivals and departures later this week at airports throughout the region.

Forecast: Snowfall amounts upgraded for Philly region

On Monday, PHL officials said the airport is open and operations are running on schedule. However, workers are reporting a busier day than usual as a storm will drop approximately a foot of snow beginning around 8 p.m. and begin tapering off Tuesday afternoon. The snowfall will disrupt flights on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.

To assist fliers with canceled flights, most airlines are offering travel waivers to change arrangments at little or no charge. Customers are urged to check with their carriers.

According to FlightAware, more than 300 flights scheduled to arrive and depart PHL on Tuesday have been canceled. Most of the affected flights are operated by American, Republic and Southwest Airlines. An additional 186 flights on Wednesday have been canceled.

More disruptions are expected. Check back for updates.
