A man who allegedly robbed a Pet Valu store in Jenkintown at gunpoint Friday night was arrested by an Abington Township police officer who chased him down following a report from a store employee.

According to authorities, the incident occurred Friday night around 8:15 p.m. at the Pet Valu located on The Fairway in the Baederwood Shopping Center, 6 ABC reports.

The suspect, identified as Robert Ameen Young, Jr., allegedly entered the store wearing a ski mask and a large winter coat. There were no customers in the store and the employee on duty greeted Young. As he approached the front counter, the employee noticed Young had silver gun in his possession.

Young allegedly demanded that the employee empty the cash register, telling her repeatedly not to do anything stupid, according to police.

After allegedly removing an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, Young bolted from the store and the employee called police.

The Abington police officer who responded noticed a green Cadillac driving around the parking lot of the shopping center. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the Cadillac took off at a high speed toward the Walgreens pharmacy at the corner of The Fairway and Old York Road.

Young eventually stopped the car near the Walgreen's entrance, got out and began to run with his hands up. The police officer pursued Young on foot until he fell to the ground and was taken into custody.

A search of the Cadillac produced a loaded handgun and the money stolen from the Pet Valu. There were no major injuries and charges against Young have not yet been announced.
