March 03, 2016
As part of the "African Roots, American Voices" series at the Annenberg Center, a musical tribute to women Jazz and Blues artists will be performed on March 12. There will also be a pre-show discussion at 7 p.m. on the influence of women in the musical genres.
The event celebrating influential women like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan is timely since March is Women's History Month.
Vocalists Christelle Durandy, Karma Mayet Johnson, Tamar-kali, Josette Newsam Marchak and Mem Nhadr will perform with a band, tap dancer, and host.
You can watch music directors Toshi Reagon and Allison Miller explain the performance's inspiration in depth, below.
