A gas main leak in South Philadelphia forced 17 residents out of their homes early Tuesday morning, CBSPhilly reports.
Six homes on the 1300 block of Snyder Ave. were evacuated around 2:40 a.m. after the 4-inch gas main began to leak. Crews quickly repaired the leak through the early morning.
The natural gas reading in the air was reported to be 60 percent when the leak was discovered. Residents were provided shelter in South Philadelphia High School until the gas levels in their homes decreased.
About 10 residents were allowed to begin returning to their homes around 4:30 a.m. By around 6 a.m., all residents were able to return.
Snyder Avenue between Broad and 13th streets is closed.
No injuries were reported.
