On the last Saturday of each month from May through September, University City District, The University of Pennsylvania and the Rotunda team up to put on free live performances known as the 40th Street Summer Series. It all takes place behind the Walnut Street Library at 40th Street.
This year's first show will be Saturday, May 30 and features The Bearded Ladies. The experimental cabaret group will present "Summer Scruff," a piece that combines old Bearded Ladies bits and a sneak peek at the upcoming "Bitter Homes and Gardens: A Botanical Hoedown," a collaboration with the Philadelphia Horticultural Society. Middle Eastern dance group Tapestry Tribal will also perform, supported by live music.
The June 27 performance will feature BalletX performing excerpts from their repertory. Community taiko drumming group Kyo Daiko will also perform.
Performers for July 25, August 29 and September 26 have yet to be announced.
