Thirty percent of female medical researchers in the U.S. say they have experienced sexual harassment, compared to 4 percent of men, according to a study from the University of Michigan.
As Reuters reported, researchers surveyed a little more than 1,000 biomedical researchers at academic institutions across the country.
Sixty-six percent of women said they had personally experienced gender bias in the workplace, compared to 10 percent of men. The harassment in the medical field persists despite the fact that more than 40 percent of medical school students are female.
“I consider our results to be a sobering reminder of how far we as a society still have to go to achieve gender equity,” said lead author Dr. Reshma Jagsi to Reuters.
