A couple and their two children are dead after a fire broke out overnight in a Monmouth County home, CBSPhilly reports.
Officials say the fire could be a murder-suicide.
First Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Marc LeMieux says the two adults and their children showed signs of injuries unrelated to the fire when they were taken to a hospital, where they died.
Firefighters responded to the home on the 200 block of Joline Ave. in Long Branch just before midnight. Police said they arrived at the scene first but struggled to get into the home.
"They tried to get upstairs to the second floor. The house was already involved," Long Branch Police Officer Jason Roebuck told CBSPhilly. "They couldn’t make their way past the smoke and fire. They tried their hardest to make it up to the second floor where they thought there were some people."
The victims were identified as 35-year-old Lyndon Beharry, 29-year-old Amanda Morris, 7-year-old Brandon Beharry and 4-year-old Brian Beharry.
