Just in time for your brand new 2019 diet, the season for buying Girl Scout Cookies has officially begun.
The annual sale – which has its origins in Philadelphia – kicks off Wednesday, Jan. 2, and will feature all the familiar flavors known and loved by many, as well as a new gluten-free cookie.
The Caramel Chocolate Chip cookie, the addition of which was announced last year, adds to the gluten-free cookie options for shoppers, joining the Celiac-friendly Toffee-tastic and Trios cookies.
If you're gluten-free and on the hunt to try the new snack, you'll have to be a bit more proactive than the average person looking for some Thin Mints. Gluten-free cookies are only available in markets while supplies last, the organization said in a statement.
Despite the Jan. 2 launch date, it will still be another couple weeks before you see booths popping up throughout the Philadelphia area. The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania begin selling locally on Jan. 17, when you can expect to see scouts selling cookies in SEPTA stations, grocery stores, and other typical locations.

Girl Scout cookies are also available for purchase online throughout the season, which typically lasts through March or early April. If you know a Girl Scout or the family/friends of a Girl Scout, she can give you access to the online Digital Cookie shopping platform.
This is the 86th year Girl Scouts have been selling cookies in Philadelphia. Some entrepreneurial scouts made the first sale back in 1933 after a few chapters starting baking for their local communities. In later years they began to commercially bake, sell, and license the goods, and the rest is history.
