An investigation is underway after a disabled toddler was found on a roadway after wandering from a New Jersey daycare facility, officials announced Friday.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Monroe Township Police Chief Michael E. Lloyd said the 2-year-old girl, who has developmental disabilities, left the state-licensed facility located on Prospect Plains Road in Monroe Township on Wednesday around 10 a.m.
The girl was walking alone on the shoulder of Applegarth Road when she was spotted by a "good Samaritan" and taken to safety, authorities said.
Police determined that the child was under the supervision of the Remsterville Learning Center, according to NJ.com. Daycare staff did not notify police that the girl was missing.
No charges have been filed, but an investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Kenneth Saunders of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-4280 or Detective Ronald Breuer of the Monroe Police Department at (732) 521-0222.
