Teen in custody after 10-year-old boy shot, wounded at Memorial Park in Chester

Investigation underway, victim taken to Crozer Hospital

A teenage suspect is in custody after a 10-year-old child was shot and wounded at Memorial Park in Chester on Saturday afternoon.

According to NBC 10, the shooting occurred at around 1:00 p.m. at the park near the intersection of West 9th and Engle Streets.

Police said the incident was provoked by an argument between the 17-year-old suspect and a group of three kids. When the three kids began to run away, the suspect pursued them, drew a gun and fired, hitting the 10-year-old victim in the stomach. 

The victim, whose gender and identity have not been revealed, was taken to Crozer-Chester Medical Center to be treated for a graze wound. The child's condition and a motive behind the shooting remain unknown.

A weapon was recovered at the crowded park after Chester city workers assisted police in locating the suspect. No other injuries were reported and an investigation is underway.
