An off-duty Darby Borough police officer was shot and killed Saturday in his home, NBC10 reports.
The 26-year-old officer was shot around 4:30 p.m. in his home on Magnolia Street in Darby Township, according to Darby Borough Police Chief Robert Smythe.
The officer, who authorities identified Sunday as Mark Hudson, had worked for the department for four years.
"He was a shining star in the department," said Smythe. "An even tempered nice guy. Anybody that met him had a good word for him."
Hudson was found by responders in an upstairs bedroom and was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Neighbors said this was not the first time police were called to the officer's home. Authorities were called several times over the past few months for domestic disputes between him and his girlfriend, who was inside the home when officers arrived.
Charges have not yet been filed, however, authorities said homicide charges are forthcoming.
