UPDATE: The Delaware Department of Transportation has reopened the left northbound lane on I-95 in New Castle County, while the stretch from I-95 to I-295 is also open following this morning's accident.
An overturned tractor trailer left thousands of pennies covering I-95 Thursday morning causing major traffic delays expected well into the morning rush hour.
The accident happened shortly before 2 a.m. on I-95 northbound at the I-295 eastbound split, according to Delaware State Police.
All northbound lanes along I-95 have been shut down and traffic is being redirected to onto the Rt. 141/Basin Road exit.
Police are asking commuters to find alternate routes as they continue to investigate and clean up the spill. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries.
The truck was en route to the U.S. Mint on Independence Mall near Race Street, 6ABC reported. Though, a spokesperson with the Delaware State Police couldn't confirm where the truck was heading Thursday morning.
